Ain Choi (b. 1997) is a Korea-based artist who constructs wave structures through clay.
She graduated with an MFA in Ceramics from Seoul Women’s University Graduate School Dept. of Arts and Design Major in Ceramics in 2024.
BIOGRAPHY
STATEMENT
빛과 소리, 그리고 우주를 포함한 모든 존재는 입자이자 파동이며, 우리는 매 순간 파동하고 있다.
이러한 사실로 미루어 볼 때, 존재의 이유가 있다면 물리적 관점에서 파동을 통해 살펴볼 수 있을 것이라 생각하게 되었다.
입자로 응집된 질료인 점토로 파동의 형상을 세운다.
파동의 성질인 진폭과 주기는 수식과 좌표로 나타낸 파상선을 통해 살펴볼 수 있다.
나는 파상선으로 이루어진 구조를 생성하고, 점토의 입자를 온전히 표면에 드러낸다.
이를 통해 물리적 개념을 예술로 해석하여 시각화하고자 하며,
입자 그리고 물질을 아우르는 파동을 들여다 보는 것으로 존재의 본질을 살펴보려 한다.
Light, sound, and all beings in the universe exist as both particles and waves — we are in constant oscillation. From this perspective, I began to think that if there is a reason for existence, it could be explored through the physics of waves.
Using clay, a material composed of condensed particles, I shape the forms of waves. The properties of waves — amplitude and frequency — can be visualized through waveforms expressed as formulas and coordinates. By generating structures built upon these waveforms and revealing the raw surface of clay particles, I seek to interpret and visualize physical concepts through art.
Through this process, I aim to observe the essence of existence by gazing into the wave — the element that embraces both particle and matter.
